It is never too early to start making a difference in the community, and RotaKids gives those aged 7-12 the chance to do just that. RotaKids enjoy developing the ability and confidence to take up their place in society as responsible, successful, effective citizens both now and in the future. They have fun developing teamwork skills and making good friends.
As citizenship is part of the school curriculum this is an opportunity for Rotary to support and expand the work already happening in school. The decisions made in the club always involve the all the RotaKids.
There are plans for three RotaKids clubs, the first two are already established in Stow and at Kitebrook (where there are two groups). Our Rissingtons group is in the formation stage at The Rissington School.
Since the Clubs started during the last school year, the RotaKids have really made a difference. Bake sales, tombolas and collections at special days such as Harvest Festival and Easter, raised money for their chosen charities. They planted purple crocus corms at the entrance to the schools in support of Rotary’s polio eradication initiative Purple for Polio. We are confident there will be many more imaginative ideas for taking action to support those in need. For these groups of young leaders, the sky is the limit!
District 1100 RotaKids Fun Day
On 20 May at 11:00 am, 20 RotaKids from four groups across the District came
together for a fantastic Fun Day. Thankfully, the weather remained fine, allowing
the children to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, including toasting
marshmallows over the fire in the Forest School, orienteering around the grounds,
solving clues, and taking part in a pea hunt on the playing field.
Indoors, the children enjoyed a variety of craft activities and an excellent general
knowledge quiz, kindly prepared by North Cotswolds member Colin Gatenby, who
compiled all the questions.
During the craft session, the children traced around their hands to create cut-outs
and designed their own avatars. These were then combined to form unique
friendship rings, which they can proudly display in their schools.
Our sincere thanks go to the host school, Stow-on-the-Wold Primary School,
which treated everyone to a delicious roast lunch. Special recognition must go to
the Headteacher, Mrs Rebecca Scutt, for her outstanding contribution. Not only
did she take on the lion’s share of the organisation, but she also ensured that all the
RotaKids mixed and worked together throughout the morning. The day could not
have been more successful, thanks in no small part to Mrs Scutt’s care, generosity,
and enthusiasm.
We would also like to thank the RotaKids and their Advisors from The Rissington
School, Kitebrook School, and Stow-on-the-Wold Primary School for joining in
the fun, making new friends, and helping to make the day such a memorable
occasion.
Roll on Fun Day 2027—we hope to see even more club there!
